I know I am a mom, but I am not above throwing out a good dad joke every once in a while. And that one was good, right? A dad joke with a little cultural twist! You see, because Sacre Coeur means sacred heart in French, so by me saying the Sacre Coeur has my sacre couer means I was saying the Sacre Coeur has my sacred heart.

When you have to explain it in detail like that, it loses its humor. So I apologize.

Anyway, I left off my posts in France by talking about how my son woke up throwing up, and we were pretty sure it was heat poisoning. While we had planned to be out and about that day, we obviously pumped the brakes when our child was vomiting.

However, after that event, he ate everything we had in the hotel, took a bath, and was back to normal. He then asked for even more food. So we decided to embark on a condensed version of our plans and head to Montmartre for a few hours.

Upon entering, this store asked me to be their spokesperson. Jk. Another bad joke.

To the Sacre Coeur!

We hopped on the trusty subway and headed to the Montmartre area. While still in Paris, this little neighborhood is pretty unique. Not only does it have the previously overmentioned Sacre Coeur, but it’s known as the fashion area. Although you don’t see tons of models and gorgeous apparel around, you do see an endless amount of fabric stores. You might not find a Joann’s, but you’ll definitely be able to secure whatever it is you’re looking for in the crazy amount of shops.

We were not in the market for a bolt of fabric; we just wanted to check things out. As we were trying to take it easy and not exert ourselves too much after the events of the morning, we did not go up to the Sacre Coeur Basilica, nor did we take the little train they had. We heard that the wait for the train could be lengthy, and we didn’t want to stand in line in the sun.

Thankfully, we didn’t need to go up because you get an amazing view of it from down below.

Who Has Seen Eurotrip?

As we were looking up and taking this picture, we ran into a scene straight out of the movie Eurotrip. I am of firm belief that there is only a specific subset of individuals who know of this movie and can easily quote it. And yes, I am one of those people. While this scene didn’t take place outside of the Louvre, it will still ring a bell with that specific subset.

After lots of giggling and picture-taking with the robot, we gave him some Euros and headed off to the carousel that was nearby. There weren’t any passengers on it at the time, so the kiddos got to be the sole occupants and pick whatever animal they wanted. My son, with all the choices to choose from, went with a bench.

Shopping and Eating

As we toured the area, I made my family stop at every pharmacy I came across as I searched for all the raved-about products I learned of on TikTok. However, it was time to fulfill the son’s request for food, so we started looking for somewhere to eat.

One thing I kept seeing on menus and in grocery stores that looked good was a Croque Monsieur. Because of the heat, I hadn’t wanted to order anything hot but decided to take the plunge on this day. When my plate came, I determined it photo-worthy. And while I don’t think this was a true Croque Monsieur but a hybrid of some sort, it was okay. It wasn’t fantastic, but it wasn’t horrible. The first few bites were great, but that may have been my hunger talking. After that, it was mediocre.

Before We Left

We found the best souvenir shops while we were in Montmartre and grabbed items for our family and friends. We also splurged on slushies and gelato because when in Paris, right?

Afterward, we headed back to call it a night with our fans. And, of course, it was just our luck that the weather would go from one extreme to another, and we would go up against pouring rain when we woke up. More on that soon!
