Don’t go thinking this is some hidden secret pregnancy tool that you haven’t heard of. I guarantee that you have come in contact with this. Probably several times. Maybe even in secret because you didn’t want people to know that you indulged in “those” things. Especially during pregnancy.

I’m talking about the Golden Arches. McDonalds.

See, I had gestational diabetes with both pregnancies (and you still continued to go to McDonalds Kristyn? **you scratching your head**) and McDonalds was my savior at times.

When you are pregnant and starving and a McDouble falls into your allowed carb range, you get a McDouble.

When your blood sugar is dropping and dinner won’t be for a bit, a crispy ranch snap wrap gets it right back up where it needs to be.

Plus…pregnancy cravings. Amirite?

But McDonald’s, and all it’s fast food counterparts, are about to be like that one ex-boyfriend I had (yes, I have only had one). It’s about to be history, banished, adios and goodbye! Per my current 40 before 40 plans, hasta la vista Ronnie!

Yes, Ronald was there for me during my pregnancy times of need. But it’s just so very horrible. Not just for me, but for everyone. If you never ate fast food, not even one time, your health quality would be so much higher. I am in definite need of my health quality being better. So I’m breaking up with Ronald. Have you ever watched Super Size Me? I did about a decade ago and went fast food-free for a solid two months. Maybe I need to watch it again.

It’s not just Ronald either. It’s Wendy’s too. And I’m trying to decide if I should avoid all places with a drive-thru. But I am really great friends with Culver’s. I actually refer to it as Culvy’s because we are on that level. And Steak and Shake? Their Frisco melt is unrivaled. You can’t just whip up a Frisco melt to that quality in the comfort of your own home.

I’ll have to do some more thinking on this one.

Ripping the bandaid off on my pregnancy chum is hard enough, but getting rid of Culvy’s and Steak and Shake is a whole different level of separation.

Another hindrance is my spouse. His name is Jacob and the first date he took me on was to McDonalds. No, I am not joking and yes, I did still marry him.

But if Ronald was a Rhonda, I think that I might feel threatened by her in my marriage. He’s pretty tight with the double quarter pounder with cheese (minus pickles and onions).

I would go cold turkey, it’s not like I even eat there often. I think maybe 8-10 times in the past year. But I have to think of the wellbeing of those around me. Any time I suggest a new dietary strategy, I get an exasperated look. You should have seen the reaction when I brought home oat milk instead of regular milk. If looks could kill…

So I’m going to have to take it slow. I’ll have to introduce the idea but then implement is gradually. My hope is that over a period of time the bond will start to diminish between the two and severing it for good won’t sting so much.

While I strategize, please pray for me. Also please send suggestions on how to break up with Ronald appropriately.

And, preggo mamas on the search for a gestational diabetes meal plan, AVOID FAST FOOD!
